In the Fall of 2023, I witnessed an annular eclipse. I did take time to observe the natural phenomenon, which was spectacular. I also took the time to observe my fellow celestial watchers.

The black in the background is very flat with hardly any sheen at all. It makes the subject pop out that much more. As I was approaching this scene, I felt that this painting needed the large amount of dark negative space.
