Live Oak Study #1 – Limited Edition Original Linocut Print by Artist and Printmaker Leslie Deil. This artwork shows the view of a Live Oak tree as viewed from below. I printed it using black ink on cream colored paper. White paper just seemed too bright as a background.

I live in South Texas and Live Oaks grow all over around here. Until about 20 years ago, my neighborhood was a cattle ranch, but the developers choose to leave many of the trees intact. The trees provide some much needed shade when the temperatures climb into the triple digits. For this particular tree, I loved its gnarled appearance. It has a sizable trunk and its limbs kind of spider out.

I showed this piece in the Buda Arts Festival in Buda, TX in September, 2024. At the conclusion of the show, the judges gave this piece an “Honorable Mention” award. The award was extra special to me because I was the only printmaker and all the other entries were paintings.

This print is a limited edition run and it is available for purchase in my shop.
