At the end of the summer in 2023, I traveled with my family to the Frio Bat Cave to watch the Mexican Freetail Bats emerge for their nightly hunting. The Frio River Bat Cave is the second largest bat colony in the world, with millions of bats. I took tons of pictures. You can see some of them on my Instagram post. It was amazing to watch a river of bats flying out and then disperse across the sky. We climbed to the top of a nearby hill and could hear them whooshing over us.
