The Sharecroppers – Open Edition Varied Edition Linocut

"Sharecroppers" by Artist Leslie Deil shows four ranch hands relaxing after lunch with the background stripped away

My grandfather grew up in a family of sharecroppers. He was born at home on the farm and he worked in agriculture until he joined the Army. This linocut is based on a photo from the late 1940’s near Montrose, Colorado with my great-grandfather, his buddy, and two of my great-uncles.

I carved each of them individually. After spacing them out, this print came out to 24 inches tall by 36 inches wide. Because of the scale, they took a long time to carve and were quite tricky to print.
